Tendonitis Recovery
It's been a long time since my last post on this blog, which this time around isn't due to forgetting or laziness. About 3 months ago now I ended up with tendinitis aka tennis elbow in both my arms, beginning with my left drawing arm and shortly after I ended up with the same thing in my right to a less severe degree. A combination of climbing, training and lots of drawing (both for work, and personal) took it's toll.
What's followed has been months of recovery, which is still on going but is finally at a stage where it's no longer painful. I couldn't draw at all for 6 weeks which was hell. I don't think I've ever not drawn for that long. It was hard and depressing. I felt like I'd lost part of myself. This was made harder by the fact that I was more or less in constant pain and was struggling to do most things because both my arms were injured.
So I spent most of my time walking listening to audiobooks. It was either that or sit around doing pretty much nothing except mindlessly watching videos, which I can't do for long.
But after months of physio I am more or less functioning normal in my day to day life. I don't think I'll be climbing for some time yet but I can deal with that. Being able to draw was my main concern as not only is it my career but my passion in life. As it stands I am getting back to full drawing potential, which is awesome! :) Still there are good and bad days but compared to how it was it's a lot more bearable.
Think it'll be awhile yet though before I have no problems at all!
If any other artists stumble upon this and are suffering with a similar thing then it does get better! Find a good physio, make sure you rest and ice your arms and build them up slowly. It is hard to not draw for weeks but you will get back to it!

Warrior Ink Sketches
Some sketches of clan warrior people using ink pens and markers. I find the brush pens good for fast drawings where you just want to be loose and not constrained. You also get some really nice lines!

Lilac-Breasted Roller
Another colourful little bird! Ink and Coloured pencils
I actually made a mistake in this one which I had to cover up by cutting out paper and sticking it over the messed up section. It's very hard to tell from the scan though but you can see it on the original.
I originally tried fixing the mistake with a while paint pen I have but it comes out like tippex and dried hard and bumpy so there wasn't much I could do with that surface so I had to cover it up.
The paper fix actually doesn't look too bad :) I've got a small brush and some white acrylic to try for next time, hopefully that will give better results!

Spider Boy!!
My latest creepy ink character. Wasn't sure what to call him but I figured 'Spider Boy' would do for now. I had fun doing the little spiders.
I actually gave up working on this guy during the inking process. I just wasn't happy with how it was going and wasn't sure if it was worth continuing. A few things hadn't turned out quite as I planned and there's not really much you can do, except start again, when things go wrong with ink except start again or make the most out of your mistakes. So I left him awhile then looked at it again a week or so later and decided I did actually quite like him and decided to make it work and this is the end product. Sometime it really is a good idea to walk away from a piece for awhile and look at it again with fresh eyes before making a final decision.

The Origami Crane Project
I love seeing the projects of other artists. One I've been following for some time now over Facebook is the Origami Crane Project by Icarus Mid Air.
I first saw this via an article on Bored Panda and thought it was really inspiring and unique. Some of the crane's he's made are beautiful!
Here are a few of my favourites:
If you like origami and paper art or like me you enjoy seeing the projects of other artists then I definately recommend checking out his work!

Something Colourful
During the treatment for my neck I ended up having issues with my back because of the tension build up which has been pretty scary and caused the muscles next to my spine to pull, very painful and worrying but thankfully I'm finally feeling more or less normal. I've even been climbing again this weekend! Saturday and Sunday because I was so happy to be back on the wall and feeling like myself!
So to celebrate I did this quick bird doodle and before I headed out this morning with my brush pen and some coloured pencils!
